About

Established in 1999 Brood is now an institution in The London Borough of Southwark.

Mark was born into a family of restaurateurs, cooks and food lovers. He has travelled extensively around the world working in various types of catering outlets and finally running his own very successful delicatessen in the UK.

Along with these experiences, his mum’s extensive cooking knowledge and the fabulous food she used to make, Mark has brought all these qualities into the menu at Brood for you to enjoy.

Many of Brood’s team have also contributed towards the menu, from their homelands, which we are very proud to include on the menu.

Brood is located next to Southwark Cathedral, at the bottom of the steps leading into Borough Market from London Bridge.

We offer the best outside eating experience, where you can break bread (brood) with friends in the heart of London.

Our cooking all happens outside in front of you on real flame charcoal grills, creating a theatre of cooking for our customers.

Being fully licensed, we serve a wide range of wines, beers and cocktails.

Brood are pleased to REVEAL the completion of our 3 year transformation project.

The award winning design agency, Rose, undertook the re-branding project of Brood. Overseeing the major renovations to the inside and exterior of what used be known as Cafe Brood.

The transformation of literally two railway arches, into a much bigger open plan, all-year inside/outside eating experience, has more than doubled the covers available (seated customers) and Brood is unrecognisable from its original building and size.

Seating has increased from: 60 to 150 covers.

Having an upper floor completely removed to make an open plan spilt level eating area.

With USB charging points and power sockets fitted under all the seating inside.

The stairs were removed and relocated to allow better access. Along with the fronts of the units on both sides, now opened up fully removing the old walls and taking the space to its maximum, out by 1.5 meters.

The rear of the unit is also now fully open, with a glass frontage that’s been extended to the maximum space available, making the upper area larger and gave us the ability to increase the seating by over half.

Creating more natural light and a visual straight into the new open plan seating area inside.

The project:

This commenced on 18th March 2018 and Rose were asked to create a completely new brand design for Brood.

Based on the new strategy and vision for the business, the final designs were approved in August 2018.

However, rolling out the new brand required Rose to redesign many applications such as the: website, interior design, staff uniforms, signage, tableware and restaurant exterior which took place in stages between 2018-2020 and was still ongoing up to January 30th 2022 because of covid and restrictions.

But now, finally it’s fully completed, along with the brand new kitchen relocated on the ground floor.

The new website went live in early 2019 along with the brand new menu which we are really proud of.

Because of the current health situation, we decided to make further changes in January 2022 to make an even safer environment for our team and customers. Now Brood is finally finished and we are delighted with our completely new look and major renovations, along with the menu changes.

*Refurbishment completion 30th January 2022

Mark the owner has created a theatre of cooking and a safer environment to enjoy all year round.

Brood restaurant is now an institution in the London Borough of Southwark right next to the beautiful Southwark Cathedral.
